School History

Resurrection Lutheran School was established in 1970.  Mr. Steven Rutschow, a new graduate of Doctor Martin Luther College (now Martin Luther College) in New Ulm, Minnesota, was called to start the school.  The enrollment that year was 13 students in Kindergarten-Grade 5.  The school was located in the basement of Resurrection Lutheran Church located at 407 14th Street NW in Rochester, MN. The building is still there. Congregational members and families supported the efforts of transitioning that basement into a Christian learning environment.  The school continued to grow, adding more students and grades each year as well as extracurricular activities.

In 1985, the school opened at its present location of 4520 19th Avenue NW.  In 2001 we added 6 classroom spaces and dedicated office space.  In 2002 we added Precious Lambs Preschool and extended Christian education down to age 3.
From its first year, enrollment has grown nearly ten-fold to over 120 students.

The Lord has blessed us to have grown from a one room schoolhouse with 13 students into 8 classrooms with a student body (PreK-8) of over 150 students.

Mr. Rutschow taught all grades and served as principal for many years.  He retired in 2013 after 43 years of service to the school.  Today we are served by 9 called teachers and additional support staff.
